Why queerham exists
Queer Southerners deserve to know what is happening to their rights, in plain language, from sources they can trust.
Too many people find out about a law that affects them weeks after it passed, or never. Local newsrooms have shrunk. Bills get buried under numbers and court filings nobody has time to read. Headlines get lost in the noise. queerham exists to close that gap for queer people in Alabama and across the South.
What you will find here
- The Latest, a feed of news that touches queer life, from independent and community newsrooms, updated on its own.
- Queer Joy, because wins, firsts and celebrations are news too.
- The wider world: climate, AI, health care, the economy and justice, since what affects everyone affects us.
- Polls for Southern races, updated automatically, starting with Alabama.
- Trackers and guides on state and federal law, voting and how to protect yourself and your family.
How we work
- Every piece is labeled News, Explainer or Perspective, so you always know what you are reading.
- Every fact links to its source: the law, the ruling, the agency or the reporting.
- We use independent sources. Headlines come from queer outlets and nonprofit and community newsrooms, not national mainstream networks or papers.
- We do not endorse candidates or parties. The polls and voting guides are there so you can make your own decisions.
- When we get something wrong, we fix it in public and note the date.
